Workshop on data processing in scientific research
After the instructions on the overall research orientations offered to students doing research, in the morning of October 19th, 2010, Faculty of Foreign Languages Lac Hong University held a workshop on data processing in order to guide its students how to handle data in the research process.
Attending the workshop were teachers of English Department, students of the batch 2006 who are going to report their research papers in December and students of the course 2007 who are going to do research next year.
According to Ms Le Thi Ngoc Huong - Vice Dean of English Department, data-processing abilities in scientific research of students of English in particular and students of Foreign Languages in general are not flexible. To overcome this weakness and also to help the students master data processing methods in the research process, the teachers in Managing Board of English Department invited Dr. Nguyen Van Tan – Head of the Department of Scientific Research- Postgraduate to guide students of the courses 2006 and 2007 SPSS16.0 software. This is a piece of software helping users perform statistical analysis more easily. With simple operations, the users can create frequency tables, percentage, average and standard deviation, histogram, statistical tests and other tests.
After the presentation of Dr. Nguyen Van Tan about SPSS16.0 software, Dr. Tran Thi Hong (Dean of English Department) guided the students to make a few examples related to the social sector, particularly some research topics in the field of English. Especially, for 2006 students, the faculty will hold a practice session about this software on computers with the direct guidance of Dr. Nguyen Van Tan.
