LHU Multimedia Communications students run a "hands-on studio," directly managing the graduation photo project for seniors.

The polished graduation photo collections that capture the youth milestones of senior students are not merely the result of a well-prepared photo shoot. They are the tangible outcomes of a real-world project directly executed by Multimedia Communications students at Lac Hong University (LHU).

Under the guidance of lecturers from the Faculty of Information Technology alongside alumni working in media, photography, and content production, students collaborated to operate a "hands-on studio" right within the university environment. From initial preparation, organization, and coordination to execution and final product delivery, every stage was implemented according to the workflow of a professional media crew.

This activity stands as concrete evidence of the practice-oriented educational philosophy in the Multimedia Communications major, where students move beyond classroom lectures to engage in real-world projects from their very first years at the university.

First- and Second-Year Students Engage in Practical Projects Early On

A unique feature of this project is the active participation of numerous first- and second-year students. Even though they have not yet entered intensive specialized courses, these students had the opportunity to experience a wide range of job roles involved in organizing and running a photo shoot.

From welcoming guests, managing check-ins, and coordinating schedules to assisting with wardrobe, collaborating with the photography crew, handling post-production, and delivering final products, each student gained direct exposure to a professional working environment. Through these roles, they not only enhanced their technical skills but also honed essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and real-time problem-solving.

This initiative also provides a valuable opportunity for students to gain a clearer understanding of their chosen career paths, while cultivating a professional mindset and workplace etiquette early in their academic journeys.

Behind a Polished Photo Shoot Lies Rigorous Training and Seamless Coordination

Few realize that behind the beautiful graduation frames captured on the day of the shoot is a multi-week preparation process managed by the Multimedia Communications student team.

Prior to officially joining the project, students underwent technical training, participated in rehearsals, and familiarized themselves with real-world operational workflows under the mentorship of both lecturers and experienced alumni. Every step was methodically prepared—from understanding how to structure a professional photo shoot and allocating tasks to managing inter-departmental coordination and handling unexpected scenarios.

On the day of the event, each student team took charge of specific duties while maintaining seamless communication to ensure operational efficiency and product quality. This serious preparation enabled students to progressively adapt to professional industry standards and understand the vital role of individual accountability in a collaborative project.

Classroom Knowledge Applied Directly into a Hands-On Environment

One of the greatest values of this activity is how it bridges the gap between academic theory and practical industry requirements.

Core modules within the Multimedia Communications curriculum—such as Photography, Media Design, Media Project Management, Multimedia Content Production, and Teamwork Skills—were applied directly to the execution of this project.

Instead of studying isolated technical skills, students participated in an end-to-end operational pipeline: receiving briefs, project planning, task delegation, production execution, and final product delivery. This comprehensive training methodology enables learners to simultaneously develop specialized expertise, professional skills, and problem-solving mindsets.

In addition to their regular academic coursework, students are consistently provided with opportunities to practice in professional media environments, effectively narrowing the gap between higher education and corporate expectations.

Mentorship from Faculty and Experienced Alumni

A prominent highlight of this initiative is the strong connection established between current undergraduate students, faculty members, and alumni who possess extensive field experience in the media industry.

Throughout the project, students received close mentorship regarding technical execution, artistic aesthetics, and professional workflows. Practical insights shared by alumni helped learners better comprehend current labor market demands, providing them with early career orientation and the motivation for continuous self-development.

This collaborative network connecting the university, alumni, and current students fosters a dynamic educational ecosystem where academic foundations are tightly integrated with real-world professional experience.

Practical Experiences that Prepare Students for the Future

In an era of rapid growth within the creative industries and digital media sectors, practical competency and project portfolio experiences are highly prioritized by modern employers. Consequently, participating in real-world projects during their first and second years gives LHU Multimedia Communications students a significant competitive advantage.

Through this "hands-on studio" model, students do not just produce high-value, practical media products; they also accumulate field experience, adopt professional work ethics, and cultivate essential skills for their future careers.

For young individuals passionate about content creation, digital media, graphic design, and media production, exploring the Multimedia Communications major at LHU unlocks an abundance of learning opportunities and professional experiences right from the start of their university journey. From practical initiatives like graduation photo projects, students are systematically maturing, building their portfolios, and preparing to become high-quality creative professionals in the digital age.
